Cleanings & exams for all ages

Request Appointment

At San Diego Dental Specialists, we want you and your family to be healthy for life. The best way to achieve this? Through regular exams and cleanings for the whole family!

Cleanings and exams are crucial for helping to prevent tooth decay and gum disease, as well as catching small dental problems before they become big ones. We recommend that most patients come to a twice-yearly cleaning to stay at their healthiest! For patients with periodontal disease, we often recommend 3-4 cleanings per year as part of your treatment.

Why are dental cleanings and exams important?

Dental cleanings and exams are crucial for you and your family’s continued optimal oral health. While good at-home hygiene goes a long way toward keeping your mouth healthy, tooth decay and gum disease can still happen to the most diligent patients.

At your San Diego dental cleaning and exam, we’ll make sure that everything is going okay in your mouth, recommending any treatments that might be necessary to keep you healthy. During your professional cleaning, we’ll remove plaque and tartar — what causes tooth decay — to ensure your mouth will feel fresh and healthy until your next appointment.

Throughout your appointment, we’ll be there to answer your questions and explain our recommendations fully.

What to expect during your San Diego dental cleaning & exam appointment

  1. Once you’re comfortably seated in our treatment chair, we’ll examine your gums and teeth, paying close attention to any signs of decay, gum disease, or any other troublesome symptoms.
  2. If necessary, we’ll take x-rays to get a thorough and accurate picture of your oral health condition.
  3. We’ll then clean your teeth, remove any existing plaque and tartar, and apply fluoride to boost your tooth health if necessary.
  4. We may offer guidance on nutrition and/or diet to improve your oral health.
  5. If we discover any oral health issues during your exam, we’ll provide any necessary recommended treatments to get your oral health back on track.
