Do braces hurt?

While it is not uncommon for patients to experience some discomfort for a few days after getting braces, this is usually mild and can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication or other methods.

How do I take care of my metal braces?
- Avoid eating hard or sticky foods, such as ice, hard candy, gum, and taffy.
- Do not chew on pencils or pick at your braces.
- Wear a mouthguard when participating in contact sports to protect your mouth and braces.
- Follow the instructions for wearing your appliances and elastics.
- Keep your teeth and braces clean by following the cleaning recommendations provided by your orthodontist.
