Our types of braces

Traditional Metal Braces

These are a popular orthodontic treatment option. They consist of metal brackets that are bonded to the teeth and connected by a thin metal archwire. As the archwire is periodically adjusted and tightened, the metal braces apply pressure to guide the teeth into their proper position.

Damon Clear Braces

A frictionless and clear brace system that moves teeth with lighter and more comfortable wires. Instead of using abrupt heavy forces, Damon Braces uses light and continuous force to move the teeth, giving stunning results!

The Invisible Alternative

These clear, thermoplastic aligners are used to straighten teeth effortlessly for both teens and adults. Since Invisalign aligners are almost invisible, they are aesthetically pleasing. Plus, they are removable for easy brushing and eating.

What to expect from your San Diego Braces treatment

  3. We’ll schedule an appointment to place your braces. This procedure is a completely painless process for most people.
  4. Periodic appointments will be scheduled to adjust your braces and make sure everything is progressing as it should.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I have to wear braces?

The amount of time spent in braces can vary greatly from person to person depending on several factors and the individual’s response to treatment. Treatment times can take 6 -30 months; however, most standard treatments take about 22 months.

    Do braces hurt?

At San Diego Dental Specialists we use Damon Braces, which are designed to be more comfortable and efficient than traditional braces. While it is not uncommon for patients to experience some discomfort for a few days after getting braces, this is usually mild and can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication or other methods.

We’ll provide you with instructions and techniques on how to effectively minimize discomfort during your orthodontic treatment.

How do I take care of my metal braces?

Here are some tips to ensure that they work properly and last for the entire duration of your treatment:

    • Avoid eating hard or sticky foods, such as ice, hard candy, gum, and taffy.
    • Do not chew on pencils or pick at your braces.
    • Wear a mouthguard when participating in contact sports to protect your mouth and braces.
    • Follow the instructions for wearing your appliances and elastics.
    • Keep your teeth and braces clean by following the cleaning recommendations provided by your orthodontist.
    • Attend regular checkups to ensure that everything is running smoothly.

Will my braces interfere with my everyday activities?

While you must avoid certain foods and follow some recommendations, you can generally expect your daily routine to remain unchanged.
